A Handmade Dress

I'm a little obsessed with my new haircut and I just want to take a moment, again, to thank you all so much for all the lovely feedback and styling tips. I am going to have to bounciest, most voluminous hair after following all the tips you guys gave me ;) I am a little bit interested in getting something called a 'hit-and-miss' perm now thanks to Sunae (and if anyone has any horror stories/happy stories about hit-and-miss perms, now would be a good time to bring them up).

I just realised, as I was looking through my clothes for something to wear, that I have never worn this beautiful, handmade Naughty Shorts dress on my blog before! Isn't it nice? It's even made from vintage fabric, and it goes perfectly with my new hair and these pretty vintage brogues.

dress - (won in a competition) Naughty Shorts (shop)
cat socks - Thank You Mart
lace socks cuffs - DIY
shoes - Vintage

I'm just about to head off to a FIVE HOUR MOLECULAR BIOLOGY LAB SESSION (actually, I'm pretty excited about it) so I'll just leave you all with this pretty picture by Roberto Ziche of the solar system to scale.

We're the third little speck from the left.

We are so tiny.

  2. I love your outfit! However, I would def. research that perm before getting it, as you said you cut your hair due to damage. If there's still issues with your hair as it is now, the perm could absolutely fry it, and make it brittle and awful feeling!

    1. Ahh, good to know. I had no idea how damaging perms were on hair. I guess they probably would be seeing as they're altering the structure on the hair!

  5. So glad that you love your haircut as much as we do! Also, what do you wear to lab? I've had to wear pants, closed toed shoes, etc. for all my labs.

    1. Well yesterday I wore a low-cut, longish, tight-fitting polka dot dress hahaha. closed shoes are a must, and a labcoat of course, but we get away with not wearing pants at least. i don't even really own a pair of pants haha ;)

  7. I love this outfit! Your new hair cut adds just the right amount of edginess to it :)
I left a reply to your reply on your other post but if you have any other questions about my experience with the perm, just shoot me an e-mail and I would be happy to tell you what I know :)
I juts realised I forgot to mention in my other comment that since only half your hair will be permed, if you go the "hit-and-miss" way, the other half of your hair will obviously not be affected by it at all :)

  8. Have you been using restorative treatments? I had to cut all my hair off about 18 months ago, from past my girls to just underneath my ears (I cried so much!) and now since using proper treatments such as inbetween the shampoo and conditioner time (its torturous in winter, you have to hop out of the shower cause you have to leave it on for 1/2 hr!) it's done wonders for my hair! and now I'm well past my shoulders again!
    Hope that helps!

  16. As soon as I saw your dress I thought, oh man, definitely has to be Naughty Shorts! Definitely have been swooning over her dresses for a LONG time. As my friends start getting engaged, I keep leading them to her site as possible bridesmaids dresses. :P

    Your hair looks SOOO adorable!

Hope you had fun on your lab! I go to a super natural science heavy liberal arts school, so even though I'm studying social work, a lot of my friends have crazy long labs. In fact, I show the man friend your posts sometimes because he's a chem nerd. :)

    Have a lovely weekend!

    xoxo,

    1. OMG you should definitely convince a friend to theme their wedding like that - bridesmaids all in naughty shorts dresses would look completely amazing. (Although I don't think she's selling again for a few months?)

That's awesome, haha I'll have to make super super sure that I'm not making any mistakes when I talk about chemistry then (I've only ever properly studied very basic chem so I'm always worried about that!)

  17. Gosh I love your new hair soooo much! It looks so wonderful on you too. If I weren't in a hair grow out phase after a long stretch of super short right now I would probably be stealing your hair style. (Still am tempted! Must resist though... Must... be able...to braid... hair...)

  18. Oh Annika, you are so talented! I can't sew anything.... In school, I failed sewing buttons. I shouldn't be telling you this as it's kind of embarrassing! Anyways, you look beautiful as always and it's so nice to see your natural hair :)

    1. No way, you have the cutest face in existence, and I actually think a haircut like this would suit you really well! I'm not just saying that, I really think that it would.

Also I didn't make the dress myself (I wish), it was handmade by naughty shorts and sent to me :)
