Lizards, Mustard and Anamorphic Illusions

Shirt is thrifted | skirt is from Japan (Momo Wonder Rocket) | shoes are from Italy | hat is thrifted

The time between Christmas and New Years has got to be the best time of the year. There's nothing that has to be done, I no longer have to stress about making people's Christmas presents, I don't even have to give a thought to university and I can spend days reading in the sunshine and, because I've escaped the city for New Years, going swimming at obscure waterholes in the most beautiful, quiet valleys.

And, because it's me, I've also been using this time off to watch endless youtube videos about the psychology of illusions.

This is one of the most mind-blowing tricks of human perception I've ever seen. Just watch the video below all the way through. At first you might wonder why the video features a long close-up of a rubik's cube, but you'll soon realise why. The third illusion with the shoe really got me. Oh boy. Which is your favourite?
Vsauce explains why brains are fooled by anamorphic illusions really well in this video!

I hope you're all having a beautiful day,

  7. I've always loved that skirt! I actually wanted to make a similar looking one a while back, but I haven't found the time yet! D: but hopefully I will make one soon!

Also that video was amazing! It reminded me of those street art chalk drawings! It's so interesting that our minds sort of trick us that way, but it's also sort of amazing that artists know how to manipulate their art to give us that illusion.

    1. I am OBSESSED with those chalk drawings. I spent about an hour looking at them while writing this post in fact, haha.
I just made myself a suspender skirt as well, I'm totally posting about it later today! haha. Hopefully it will inspire you!

    2. Oh my goodness! I love suspenders.. I literally add them to every skirt I make, and I even add them to skirts I buy at stores sometimes. I cannot get enough. I guess I have not found the time to make myself another one because of all my other sewing projects (I am majoring in fashion and costume! SO I have a ton of sewing projects to finish all the time!) But yeah! You have definitely inspired me to make more things for myself! :D

      Thanks!

    4. Oh my goodness , you have no idea how amazing you are with sewing and making your own clothes! And you have been teaching yourself! You know how to do things that I never learned on my own until I took classes! And you are so amazing at it! ;3 I always look forward to your new projects :D

  11. I love optical illusions so much. I always have. Also your dinosaur shirt is seriously the best thing ever and I want it. It's adorable with that pinafore! I definitely agree with you about the time between Christmas and New Year's Eve. I'm already stressed about what I'll have to deal with with the upcoming semester. Ugh.

  12. decided to comment once more - i loved learning about anamorphosis in history of art classes (eg. "the ambassadors" by hans holbein and the image of the skull, you heard of it?), i also really enjoy watching street artists making these kind of "sceneries" (eg. Kurt Wenner).

    1. Oooh! I haven't heard of that skull one. so amazing!!! It blows my mind that people are able to paint something so distorted with the intention of it looking like something real when looked at from just the right perspective. I don't understand how it's done without some kind of digital, computerised help!!! Pretty sure that those artists are absolute geniuses!!
I didn't know that amamorphosis was an actual art term. Thanks so much for letting me know, I love learning new things!
