After taking these photos, one of my housemates made the observation that I looked like The Hamburglar with my hamburger necklace and stripey shirt (and cheesy orange socks?), and I was inclined to agree. The outfit was something I put on in a rush after making this skirt; the skirt being the whole point of this post! I think that this skirt needs to be paired with a tight black shirt rather than this one (or if anyone wants to suggest a type of shirt they think should be paired with it, please, fire away!) Anyway, I did just want to show off the skirt because it worked out so well. I have just bought a bunch of fabric from my favourite fabric place, Marrickville road (any aspiring Sydney sewers need to go there!), and I've been filling this Pinterest board with clothing-making inspiration, so I'm excited to start sewing again after these successes! Ah, the joys of procrastination... I'm only sewing so much lately because I have about 1 billion assignment deadlines looming. But they can wait. I want to make some pretty clothes.

These pictures look like they've been taken from a fashion magazine, they're perfect ♥
ReplyDeleteI want to make a cute skirt too, but it's almost winter here so I'm to busy knitting sweaters :)
One thing I don't have patience for but WISH i did is knitting (and mathematics haha). That's so cool, I want to knit a sweater!
DeleteAnd my housemate Josh will be very happy to hear that :)
Love the print on your skirt! I'm slowly getting back into sewing, too, love it so much! :) xx

I think your striped top looks great with this floral skirt. The prints look nice together. I love the orange socks and your cute hat too. I'm not sure you look like the Hamburglar though. He has a floppier hat I think! You look adorable!
ReplyDeletelove the skirt! Although it would look ace with a black tee I quite like the whole mixing stripes with florals thing - gotta love a bit of clashing prints :)
ReplyDeleteGreat skirt! You make me miss sewing so much! I still wear the dress that I made (inspired by you) from two years back ALL THE TIME! It's still hanging in there! I would love to see your skirt paired with a white or off white blouse. I know you've mentioned wanting to feel a little bit more grown up, but agree with being as girly and young for as long as possible! Maybe pair the outfit with some lace up boots, to give it a bit of kick!
ReplyDeleteLove from London!

Whaaaat that's so awesome!! :) Link me to it if you have a photo of it (and you haven't done so before!)
DeleteAnd I totally changed my mind about that whole "looking like a grown up" thing in the post immediately following that, don't worry haha.
http://mixedmediumstheatre.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/c-124st-street.html That seems to be the only picture I have of it which is funny because I wear it all the time!
DeleteSo glad you changed your mind! I went to through a phase of "on,no - I'm getting old and I should start dressing like it". BUT that's no fun, haah! Young and girly for as long as possible me thinks!

I love the print mixing here. Really good look. To be honest I think black would not have popped as much. I want to start sewing skirts as well. Not only a money saver but you have full creative direction in your clothes. You can make one of a kind items unique to you! Love it.

So great, just awesome. (and since your post about earth-like planets, it's been most of what I talk about, including conjecture about the amount of earth-like planets in IC 1101, thanks for that information)

ReplyDeleteHey aspiring Sydney sewer here and I don't know about the Marrickville Rd fabric store!!! What is the name? I can't find it online... (there are A LOT of fabric stores in Marrickville it turns out) Is it Tan Hung by any chance?
ReplyDeleteI don't remember the name of the one I got this fabric from, but I recommend that you go to them ALL - they're all amazing! And cheap. So good :)

Hahaha, I can see the Hamburglar reference, but I don't think I would have noticed if you wouldn't have said anything - I LOVE that skirt. You did such a great job on it!
