I'm going to be really good at being a poor student

I'm going to be really, really good at being a poor student when I (hopefully) move out of home later this year.
Yes. Why?
Well, for starters, I sewed this dress myself.
And guess where I sourced the stripey material for the top?
A pillow case.
Not even a pillow case I already owned.
A thrifted pillow case.
(I washed it first)
That's how ridiculously thrifty I have gotten, apparently.
The light blue was some remnant material from a charity store as well.
But I really like how the dress turned out! I think the colours go really nicely together, and I love the stripes, even if it was once used for someone's sleepy head!

I also have a new boater hat (finally!)
This gorgeous hat is c/o Wholesale-dress.
I was seriously blown away by its quality, because it's flipping $4!!

Oh my god, I'm the cheapest person ever.

Wearing:
Dress - I made it!
Bag - c/o Mochi Beaucoup
Hat - c/o Wholesaledress
Necklace #1 - Vintage
Necklace #2 - c/o My Name Necklace
Tights - Forever 21
Shoes - Yesstyle

A lovely lady called Ashlee sent me an email the other day asking what music I listened to, because she was wondering how my music taste reflected my style and taste in clothing. From that, I thought maybe I would include a couple of songs in each look which go with the outfit, for anyone else who is curious about my music tastes! So this is my little list of songs for this look (& let me know if you'd like me to keep doing this in the future!):

Foster the People - Don't Stop (Colour on the Walls)
Regina Spektor - Hotel Song
Boy & Bear - Golden Jubilee

Hope you all had/are having a thrifty Friday!

xxx Annika

    1. Haha, noo the things I make are NO where near good enough quality to sell! I just make them for me, which means I don't ever bother with proper interfacing or seams... (seriously, if you looked at the inside of the dress, you'd see what a mess it is). As long as it looks good on the outside though, that's all I care about at the moment, haha. Also, I'd have no idea how to make a dress fit anyone that isn't myself. I am thinking about opening up an online store sometime in the future though, to sell my vintage finds! I will let you know if I do!

    2. If I could be in on that little knowledge of future stores I would appreciate it greatly. You really do have a wonderful knack at making these! And finding them/fixing them.

  13. I thought I was the cheapest person ever - but you are kicking my arse. *hands over Queen of Cheap crown*

I am loving the pillow case dress. Youare to clever. Seriously.

Did you end up getting shoes? I went through all of mine and can't really find anything that is you. I have some plain Camper pumps, that is a great idea. I think they are Camper Helenas - google them. If you like them, they are yours.

    1. that's just too darn sweet of you, but i couldn't possibly ask for that!!! i did just get myself 2 pairs of dr martens in the one day (a bit ironic how it happened actually, I have been looking for doc martens in op shops for years to no avail, so the other day I just ordered some online... they arrived the other morning, on the exact same day that I went to salvos and found a perfect pair of $10 docs. Haha). But yeah! I'm pretty set for shoes now. At least, I have a couple more pairs to work with :) But thank you so much, you are too lovely!!!

  14. I love that you made the bodice out of a pillow case. I bought a 1960s duvet cover from a charity shop to make a dress. I haven't even cut into it yet because I love it so much and I'm scared I'll ruin it.

    1. Doooooo it! Or, put it on your bed:) think about it like this, it's no good it just sitting there, not having anything done to it! Better you try and accidently ruin it, I say!

    2. Not that I think you will!! But you should definitely give it a go!

  20. EVery time you post it looks like I have stepped into a whimsical little cookbook! I am so impressed by your sewing skills, I am just starting out in that department! My actual pillowcases on my bed are thrifted and I love them for their vintage floral print, I never thought thrifting pillow cases for the fabric- what a brilliant idea! I would one hundred percent wear this adorable outfit, and I am also now thinking about making my first purchase from wholesale- dress! Alright, enough gushing out of me for now, but thanks for being so inspiring and thrifty!
Hope you are having a lovely saturday!

  22. I was just saying earlier today how I always wonder about the music bloggers listen to. Especially when I like someone's style, I wonder will I like their music taste. Amazing I found your blog today! I love your style, cute pink hair, and I love your thriftiness! I've just been getting into Foster the People, and I haven't heard of Regina Spektor or Boy & Bear. Boy & Bear sound fun, thanks for sharing!
