Hello! Another day, another DIY. It almost seems like that anyway – today’s are
these Miu Miu inspired patterned tights. Me and my friend Clare had a chill craft afternoon, and ended up with paint stuck
all over our legs, but it was well worth it. I'm going to be making more of these, using different stencils. I'm thinking jellyfish for one, and daisies for another :)
For these, I followed the DIY on the Haute Pursuit's blog, but added my own step - you should make & use stencils. This will make sure you get the right shape, and you don't have to worry if you're not great at hand painting or lack any kind of skill with a steady hand (like me).
Another tip - DEFINITELY don't take off until COMPLETELY dry. Very important.
Here's some photos of my outfit!

i love these! i was collecting pictures for inspiration, and I am so impressed that you whipped these up yourself. i have to make some, and it seems like it would be hard to stop at just one pair! can you wear them multiple times?

Yeppp! If you use enough clear nail polish on them, you can wear them until they rip (which they will quite soon, as sheers inevitably do. such a love/hate relationship with sheer tights, haha)
DeleteLove this, how did you attach them to the tights?
ReplyDeleteThey're painted :)
DeleteWas there a specific type of paint you used? Or was is just random?

Have you washed your thighs after? What is the care for it?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.4polinka.blogspot.com
Ahh, yeah, you just wash your legs :P and if you use fabric paint, they should be okay if gently handwashed with soap in warm water. Not sure about acrylic paint, I'm too scared to wash mine, haha.
DeleteIf you use fabric paint they do okay in the washing machine, but you are best off gently handwashing them.
DeleteI got tights but i totally forgot they were sposed to be sheer! Will it still work?
ReplyDeleteI'm actually not sure I'm sorry, i've never tried it on not sheer tights... maybe!
Deletedid you also use acrylic paint + nailpolish???
ReplyDeletedoes it work with other materials?
yep but fabric paint (with nailpolish) works better
Deletei've only tried with sheer tights:)
Hey, I'm thinking of making something like this as a gift for one of my friends for the holidays, however we're definitely pretty different in size so I'm worried about how I would be able to do this without distorting the shape of the pattern. Are there alternatives to wearing the tights while applying the pattern, or would this just be something I couldn't do?
ReplyDeleteYeah! You could try rolling up some cardboard to approximately the same thickness as your friends leg (maybe get the right size off someone who is a similar size... your friend might start asking questions if you just start rolling cardboard around her leg). anyway, just make a cardboard tube around the size of a leg and pull the tights up around it :)
