DIY Crop Top

As promised, I have made a tutorial on how to turn a loose-fitting, long-sleeved top into a cute crop top! For this project, you can basically use any stretchy shirt that is either in your size, or is up to a few sizes too big for you. Have fun!

Much love,

  2. Great tutorial! Crop tops are probably the most practical item for Australian weather but there'll apparently be a 7 degree cold snap on Sunday so the idea makes me go BRRR right now!

The only problem I have with these sort of modifications on oversized clothing is the shoulders. The damned shoulder seams always sit lower down the arm than where they should be and it looks just.. weird to me. I've always made a promise to myself that if I'm ever going to buy a shirt that's too loose for me from thrift shops, the shoulders have to be perfect because you can't shift the location of the shoulder seams without a lot a lot a lot of trouble =[

Sometimes a looser-fit crop top is a better idea in these situations, I reckon! :)

    1. Yeah! I have such issues with fixing the shoulders on dresses, shirts etc that are too big. I haven't yet found a good work-around for this, (especially if the shoulders are slightly puffy) and so I have about 3 or 4 too-big dresses that I've attempted to modify - and completely ruined, haha - whose shoulder seams just won't sit right.

That's why I've suggested only using a shirt that's up to a couple of sizes too big for this tutorial and nothing more - mine was a size 12 and I'm usually an 8, and the shoulder seams worked out fine but I think if it was a little bit bigger it wouldn't have worked!
