Back to Cool Campaign Remix #1 (part 1)

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I was collaborating with Chictopia for their "Back to Cool" Campaign and shop sale. Anyway, I managed to get for myself a couple of the items from the Chictopia sale! And I put together three "back to school" outfits for you guys using some of those items. This is the first part of the first remix, and the next two parts will be posted real soon over the next few days. When I was at school, I wore a disgusting yellow and maroon uniform every. day. Because of my brother's high school graduation, all my favourite online stores having Back to School Sales, and generally feeling really old, I've been really nostalgic in the last few weeks for a high school experience that I never had, with school proms and hallways with lockers and, basically, the worlds of Clueless and 10 Things I Hate About You all rolled into one. I have to remind myself I did not actually go to high school in an American teenage movie and high school was never that fun for me. If I had been able to wear whatever I wanted though, gosh it would have been cool to be able to wear these outfits.

Remix 1.1: I mixed this fruit-print dress with a pastel pink satchel bag and the prettiest pink dip-dye tights. The tights are still on sale, and there are a couple left if you want to get yourself a pair!

DIY Suspender Skirt

I made a pretty suspender skirt the other day, and I want to share with you how I did it.
All you need to do is follow my "how to make a circle skirt" tutorial (here), but STOP before adding the waistband.
Instead of adding a waistband like in that tutorial, we are going to do this:
- Make the inner circle much larger than your waist - so add a couple of inches to the diameter. Make sure you can easily get it on over your thighs (this was a bit of a problem with the last tutorial).
- Then, do this to the inner circle:
It's kind of a pain to do because it's a circle, but it can be done. So persevere! Here's some neat instructions for creating a waistband tube thingy and inserting elastic.
- Then we need to add suspenders. This just involves cutting out two long strips like this (make sure they will go from your waist up to your shoulders and down again, then add a little bit more):
folding in half lengthways, and sewing all the way down the edge of both folded strips like this:

then turning these strips/tubes inside out (here's a link to a really good tutorial on that part) and sewing them onto your skirt waistband, wherever you want the straps to sit!
wearing:
skirt - DIY, t-shirt - forever 21, shoes and bag - vintage

Hope you're all having a super nice day! Please ask in the comments below if you've got any questions, and I'll try and get back to you ASAP!

Scholarly

After looking at myself in the mirror and seeing that I'd accidently dressed like a librarian/kindergarten teacher, I decided to forgo a bag and hold my heaps old school copy of Alice in Wonderland instead. I've had this beautiful book since I was little. It's got the cutest illustrations!

I get so excited whenever I find any collared shirt or jumper now I've got these Lady Ties in my possession, because they add so much personality and prettiness to anything with a collar. I got this cropped jumper the other day from a charity store because I knew how perfectly it would go with this lady tie. I wasn't wrong!

How are you guys going?

Painting Icecream on my Bedroom Wall..

Yep... well... the title basically explains it all.
They're icecreams, and I painted them on my bedroom wall.

They're directly opposite from my bed so it's nice to stare at them for a while when I wake up. What's not so great is that it often makes me want icecream for breakfast.

wearing

ribbon - DIY
wig - Ebay
velvet skirt - from my friend Leila
tights - c/o Oasap

Ahhhh heart printed things! My love! EFoxCity contacted me the other day asking about sponsorship (also, hello new lovely sponsor!) and I had to get this heart print blouse. So glad I chose this, because it's perfect, particularly with this bowtie and velvet skirt.

p.s. Do you Realize by the Flaming Lips
even better,
Do you Realize by Ball Park Music covering the Flaming Lips. I think I nearly died and went to a very happy place when I heard this. They did it perfectly.

I'm on a little bit of a holidays now, so there are a few projects and DIYs coming to you real soon.

Princess Bubblegum in a Sailor Dress

 wearing
dress - c/o Romwe
cardigan - Forever 21
bag - c/o Wholesale
tights - c/o Oasap
shoes - Raben Footwear
beanie - No idea (maybe Cotton On?)

Today is the perfect warm spring day and this is the perfect little sailor-esque dress. Unfortunately it has sold out on Romwe, but they do have a few other sailor-style dresses - if you want to look for one search for "navy dress".

I was just blown away by all the positive feedback I got after going all like this on you the other day:
(Someone mentioned that I was Princess Bubblegum so I had to include that. Even if she is waving her hands about and holding a bubbling test tube.)
Anyway it was so cool to hear from so many other young female scientists, I had no idea how many of you there were out there in the fashion blogging world. Thank you so much for leaving such thoughtful and motivating comments. I'm so excited that having this fashion blog has not only let me contribute to the world of fashion but to make some positive contribution to science as well.
It's also shown me that I should try and blog a little more about things other than fashion that I find interesting or are inspiring me, and introduce a little more variety to this space. So I shall also endeavour to do that & any suggestions you might have are welcome!
