Painting Icecream on my Bedroom Wall..

Yep... well... the title basically explains it all.
They're icecreams, and I painted them on my bedroom wall.

They're directly opposite from my bed so it's nice to stare at them for a while when I wake up. What's not so great is that it often makes me want icecream for breakfast.

Do you realize - we're floating through space?

Ahhhh heart printed things! My love! EFoxCity contacted me the other day asking about sponsorship (also, hello new lovely sponsor!) and I had to get this heart print blouse. So glad I chose this, because it's perfect, particularly with this bowtie and velvet skirt.

p.s. Do you Realize by the Flaming Lips
even better,
Do you Realize by Ball Park Music covering the Flaming Lips. I think I nearly died and went to a very happy place when I heard this. They did it perfectly.

I'm on a little bit of a holidays now, so there are a few projects and DIYs coming to you real soon.

Princess Bubblegum in a Sailor Dress

 wearing
dress - c/o Romwe
cardigan - Forever 21
bag - c/o Wholesale
tights - c/o Oasap
shoes - Raben Footwear
beanie - No idea (maybe Cotton On?)

Today is the perfect warm spring day and this is the perfect little sailor-esque dress. Unfortunately it has sold out on Romwe, but they do have a few other sailor-style dresses - if you want to look for one search for "navy dress".

I was just blown away by all the positive feedback I got after going all like this on you the other day:
(Someone mentioned that I was Princess Bubblegum so I had to include that. Even if she is waving her hands about and holding a bubbling test tube.)
Anyway it was so cool to hear from so many other young female scientists, I had no idea how many of you there were out there in the fashion blogging world. Thank you so much for leaving such thoughtful and motivating comments. I'm so excited that having this fashion blog has not only let me contribute to the world of fashion but to make some positive contribution to science as well.
It's also shown me that I should try and blog a little more about things other than fashion that I find interesting or are inspiring me, and introduce a little more variety to this space. So I shall also endeavour to do that & any suggestions you might have are welcome!

Hello, I'm a Scientist

For those of you who don't know, while I love fashion and sewing and all of that good stuff, my real love and focus in life lies in science. I am currently studying to become a kickass researcher in either Neuroscience, Immunobiology or something to do with Biochemistry (I haven't decided yet, but need to get onto choosing a major soon!) Another thing that I'm pretty passionate about is how people perceive science, and the work being done by scientists. When the scientist in the movie is always either the Dr Frankenstein-type baddie or the super altruistic guy who just went too far (and pretty much always a male-type of guy), or 66% of Americans can't name a living Scientist, it makes me pretty darn sad.
I've been working with a fellow blogger and scientist Tempest who had an amazing idea of writing a series of blog posts featuring scientist fashion bloggers in order to try and challenge the stereotypes of both what a scientist is, and what a fashion blogger is.
I'm going to say that on balance, most scientists probably don't look like this:
Yet type "Scientist" into google images and you predominately get a whole variety on the white-haired bubbling-test-tubes middle-aged male mad scientist stereotype.
Basically, I want to put myself out there and say "hey, science is really damn cool" and to be of some assistance in dismantling this stereotype by not being a mad, middle-aged man constantly holding a bubbling test-tube and waving my arms about. Because these stereotypes not only have negative effects on kids choosing a future career, but also on women already in science.

I don't want to quote the whole article here and wrongly take all the credit, so you can read the interview I did with Tempest (which is at the end of the post), and her amazing article by clicking here.

Much love,

Zebra Safari

After getting this amazing photographic printed dress (from Romwe) the other day, I decided I was going to theme my entire outfit as a zebra safari. To accomplish that I donned this sunny yellow cardigan from Modcloth, which is kind of representative of the sunshine reflecting off grassy plains, and this map-print bag. My whole outfit reminded me of an old-school adventure tale from the 1950s about an explorer gallivanting around African savannahs.

Also, this is probably incredibly lame, BUT I was really excited about it:
I totally had a mention in GL Magazine. A real life magazine! Thanks so much Tori for mentioning me in her magazine feature, and letting me know about it!

So guess what - my 1 week of uni holidays are coming up and I'm itching to make some clothes and pretty things and then share them all with you guys! You can tell when I don't have full-on uni when half my posts become DIY posts (check out my archives from July, haha). I can't wait!

Hello there beautiful people! Now, why does this always happen? I am such a follower of northern hemisphere fashions and blogs that now, with my outfits, I appear to be going into autumn - this is such an autumny outfit. Compare it with this outfit which was taken in the middle of winter, and this one in the middle of summer, haha. I am always all mixed up down here in the forgotten southern hemisphere.

Anyway, I also really like this Oscar Wilde quote up above so it became the title of my look.

Also, I really like this new wig! After reading all your comments on my look a few days ago when I said I wouldn't ever wear a wig out in public... WELL I got over my anxieties and wore this one out on Monday night and on Tuesday. I got loads of compliments on it too, and a couple of my male friends actually didn't realise it wasn't my hair until I told them (though why they forgot I'd dyed it brown and how they thought it could have grown so fast in just a couple of days, I don't know), but still! That was all encouraging so I think I'll be just pretending that this is my real hair in the future. Please humour me.

Hope you're all having a gorgeous day,
