I am declaring myself the thrifting queen...

...because I obtained this Pin Up Girl Clothing dress secondhand for $5. In exactly my size. This is the original that retails for $108.

There's a lot to be said for jumping off your bus in the middle of nowhere in a sleazy neighbourhood because you spotted some very hungover young adults in a sharehouse throwing a yard sale. That's exactly how I obtained this dress. I also got a cute polkadot skirt for $1 - which sadly didn't fit, but I regifted to my friend!
That's all. To be honest I'm just popping in here today to gloat. ;)
(Also in case you were wondering, the shoes are from a shop that no longer exists.)

Hope you're all having a lovely October 21st (AKA BACK TO THE FUTURE DAY OMG).

My Week In Outfits #2

I got such wonderful feedback from my last "My Week In Outfits" video that I really wanted to make another one - so here it is! Unfortunately I didn't film what I was doing out-and-about this time because most of last week consisted of going to doctors appointments and and doing assignments, and that would have been super, super boring haha. Nonetheless, I hope that you all still like this video! Let me know which outfit was your favourite!
p.s. I've been having a mini-dilemma over what to "label" my style. Not that it really matters, but it was something I was thinking about when trying to come up with a video title (obviously, I gave up in the end and just called it "My Week In Outfits #2"). But, if you had to, how would you sum up my style in a short sentence?

My Week In Outfits

Last week, I filmed my outfits every single day from Monday to Sunday. I also roped various people into filming me while I was out and about - at uni, doing grocery shopping or out at dinner with my friends - to give you all a little glimpse into what I was doing whilst wearing these outfits!

I know I haven't posted any outfits on here for a couple of weeks, but here's SEVEN - I hope that makes up for it! :)

p.s. just in case you were wondering, I don't spend all of my Saturdays just rolling around carefree in grass & I actually had to go to uni 4 days this week ;__;

Have a beautiful weekend everybody!

Spot On!

I’m so great with the puns. What a hilarious title I chose for this outfit – Spot On – get it? Because my top has spots? HAHA. SO FUNNY. Alright, I'll just let you all recover from your uncontrollable laughter for a minute... anyhoo…

So this sweet clothing company from LA called Sugarlips Apparel were lovely enough to send me this amazing cut out back polka dot top, and I love it so! It goes amazingly with high-waisted skirts with a bit of “poof”, like the circle skirt I’m wearing in these photos. Because its so brightly coloured (& golly do I love bright things!), I toned it down a bit by pairing it with all black things, because I think I would have looked too insanely colourful otherwise.

Wearing
Bag - c/o Oasap
Necklace - Stolen from boyfriend
Tights - Forever 21
Shoes - Rubi Shoes

Did you forget to enter the Mochi Beacoup giveaway? Would you like to??? There's only 3 days left! So hurry hurry hurry hurry hurry!!!!!!

And thank you all so much for your feedback on my handmade/handpainted dress! I have taken into account all your wonderful ideas and am in the process of updating the dress... but that is another post for another day!

I love you guys!!

Cutest little cowl I ever did see!

Maria from the North Way Studio, an awesome little Etsy store, sent me a gorgeous, super soft 100% merino wool cowl to try out and review. Now, a cowl is not an accessory that I usually would have chosen for myself, but I've found that it's expanded my wardrobe possibilities greatly! When Maria contacted me and asked if I'd like one, I fell in love with this particular lilac patterned one:

and although I don't usually wear scarves or cowls, I decided that  I would give it a go. And I'm so glad I did! For one, it's been incredible on my early morning commute to university - its such an easy thing to throw on to keep me warm (and to sneakily fall asleep into - it's a really early morning commute). Also, it looks awesome with my new lilac hair! I've had so many compliments on how well they go together! I'm so super happy with it.

So, I have concluded that Etsy store owners are awesome. Maria is the nicest, friendliest girl (and a super talented knitter!), and the package was wrapped so nicely and came with the cutest card!

I mean, how sweet is that?

Well Maria, you've sparked what I'm sure is going to become a dangerous addiction to Etsy stores. After my super positive experience with the North Way Studio, I'm going to be going back to Etsy again and again and again!

As soon as I received this in the mail the other night, I threw an outfit together around it and rushed outside to take some photos before the light completely disappeared:

But, I wasn't able to get very good photos, so I went out again this morning and took some more photos for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

DIY Heart Sweater

I’m basically going through half of my clothes and DIY updating them. This stripey sweater was looking very lonely and unloved, sitting at the back of my closet – so I added this red fabric heart to the front, and now it can be worn many more times – it’s almost a brand new piece! That’s what I love about DIYing your clothes: you can update your whole wardrobe just by adding a few quirky details to pieces here and there.

Sweater - DIY
Skirt - Vintage
Belt - Vintage
Shoes - Rubi Shoes
Socks - Vintage

How I did it:

1. Choose your sweater and fabric for your heart
2. Draw HALF a love heart on your fabric with a pen.
3. Then pin the fabric together in half and cutout (this will ensure the heart is symmetrical!)

4. Wearing your sweater (but nothing else underneath, or you will attach pins to everything!), pin the heart where you think it should go. Carefully take your sweater off, and then lay flat and properly pin the heart to the sweater.

5. Using a close zigzag stitch, go all the way around your heart in a similar colour thread (or black thread, if you want it to stand out), and you're done! Make sure you're not sewing through both the front and back of the sweater when you do this as well!

I went over my heart a few times to make sure it was well attached. Alternatively if you don't have a sewing machine, hand stitches also look quite effective (and should work just as well, if you have a bit more patience! But be wary: if your heart fabric easily frays, you will need to go around the outside quite a few times!)

Do-it-yourself Hand Painted Deer Print T-Shirt

I've been so in love with sweaters, t-shirts and cardigans lately which feature these kind of kitschy animal prints:

These are the inspiration behind this deer-print t-shirt DIY. Enjoy!

You will need
- Fabric paint
- A fine paint brush
- A plain t-shirt
- A square of cardboard (can be from anywhere, an old cereal box, etc)
- Scissors
- A pen
- An iron

1. Wash your t-shirt first (this helps the fabric paint stay on later).
2. Iron it
3. Now you need to make your stencils! Use an image from online and print it onto a piece of paper, then trace it onto your cardboard, OR hand draw onto your piece of cardboard. The design should measure around 4 by 2.5 inches, but you can vary this depending on what you want. When you've drawn your design, cut your stencil out with scissors, and join it back up with stickytape.
4. Place the stencil onto your shirt, making sure it's parallel to the top and bottom of the shirt so that it's straight. Fill the stencil in thickly with your fabric paint. Once it's filled in, remove the stencil carefully and fix up any edges with your paintbrush. If you found antlers too fiddly to put in the stencil, but want little reindeers like me, you can also hand paint your antlers on at this point!
5. Paint your deers onto your shirt using the above images as a reference, or however you would like them to be arranged. When you flip the stencil over to do the ones facing backwards, make sure to clean your stencil with some tissue paper first!
6. When you're done, let it dry for a few hours. Then, run over each deer with a hot iron for 1-2 minutes. This should make it washing-machine safe (as long as you started with a decent fabric paint).

You're done! Enjoy your lovely updated deer-print shirt!

Here's some photos of it in an outfit:

(My cat Rufus snuck into the last one! At least he goes with the dress.)
