I really wanted to do a video version of my DIY circle skirt tutorial, so here it is!
When I can't be bothered to add a zip to a circle skirt - it can add up to an hour to a project - I use this no-zip method with some stretchy fabric instead!
Stretchy fabrics include lycra, jersey knits and spandex if you're on the lookout for some in a fabric store.
I will also upload a version on non-stretchy materials and adding zips soon.

ReplyDeleteI love the circle skirt. I remember doing this in 1951, yes that's right 1951. Also, we did the same application on netting to wear under the skirt to make the skirt pouf. The good old days

ReplyDeleteYour desired length x 2 on each side.
DeleteSo if your desired length was 20 inches, you would need 40 x 40 inch fabric.
Then add a couple more inches for the waistband :)
I made a floor length version of the circle skirt and used the leftover fabric to make a high waistband that came up to just under my bust. I sewed eyelets in to make corseting on the front of the waistband to give the skirt the desired look. I get tons of compliments on the skirt, and people are amazed when I tell them I made it myself. It's such a confidence booster. Thank you, Annika, for your tutorials. They inspire me to give them my own twist to make something super-unique.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible (especially for floor length versions) to not "sew on" the waistband, but cheat and just sew a hem up there?
