My name is Annika and I'm from Sydney. I study science and make clothes. Here is where you can find the strange mash-up of my two worlds, as I try and make science fashionable and the fashion world more scientific. I am a big advocate of dressing exactly how you want to dress and not letting anyone else tell you otherwise. I like making my own clothes rather than paying $300 for the same thing on the high street. I have recently made the commitment to promote only ethically-sourced fashion. And I'm also super enthusiastic both about learning things and teaching people things, so I hope that if you hang around here long enough, you might learn something new!

ReplyDeleteHi Annika!
ReplyDeleteI really love your blog- it's amazing!
I was wondering if you could tell me how you put multiple picture links under your banner? I've tried a few website tutorials but it won't seem to work for me!
Thanks so much!
Yeah! I found a really good tutorial for it a while back... i think this is it. my internet is slow at the moment so i can't watch the video to make sure, but if this isn't it then i am fairly sure the tutorial i used was from this website.

they are SO AMAZING! Good on you!!
DeleteHiya,
ReplyDeleteI'm from the UK and I was wondering if you knew where I could get the Nordic Blonde Ultimate Lightener L1++? If not a shop maybe an online website?
Thanks :-)
hey,
Deletemaybe you can only get it in australia? I know that there is a faaaar larger selection of hair products in the UK because that's where I get most of mine shipped from! you can just get it from any pharmacy in australia (do you have priceline there? that's where i got mine from). i tried to find it on amazon but couldn't though, so I'm not sure about online. But now I use just a powder bleach tub that I mix with 30 Vol developer and it works just as well :)
Hi!!! I love your blog!! I love your tights!!!! Thanks from México!!!
ReplyDeleteSo if you had your own clothing line.. like i would have an addiction to it! Well im 15 and i want to be a chemist, but i also have a diy crafty side to me! thank you for showing me that the two worwlds are possible to coexist!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU
Thank YOU for your lovely comment! It makes it all worthwhile when people are inspired by what I do. And that's so freaking awesome, do stick with it - university level chemistry is amazingly fascinating and it's made me want to become a chemist and continue on with chemistry as well :)
DeleteHi :)
ReplyDeleteJust want u know that I love ur outfits sooo much!! (And I'm surprised that u actually made all these by urself.)
Ur blog inspire me a lot!! :]
Thank you for posting all these gorgeous things XD
Hey Annika! Loving your blog and your hair is amazing! So I was checking out the Wholesale site that you link every now and then. This place is a great deal! Have you had any issues with the clothes or shipping? I've never heard of it so it would be nice to hear about it from someone who orders things from there a lot Keep on keepin on, girl! Thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteHey you! Thanks heaps :) Wholesale dress is alright. You have to take a risk shopping there though, and all of their stuff is very, very small (US 0-2, AU/UK 6-8 kind of size). But the price is very tempting, I know :) I have had some teeny issues, like shoes with buckles tend to break and the cheaper clothes are not very good. But the bags and hats and socks and tights and flat shoes are all really pretty good so I'd go with that for your first order :)
DeleteAnnika!
ReplyDeleteI'm positive you get this ALL the time, but I am absolutely in love with your style! I am so, so jealous of your talent and creativity! If I had money, time, and patience, maybe I could possibly catch up with you a TINY bit hahaha seriously though, if I could steal every single one of your outfits, I definitely would. Keep on being awesome!
You are awesome. Thanks for making my day! :)
DeleteI really like your blog and the way you get dressed, I put a link to your blog on mine :)

ReplyDeleteI found you through Chictopia and I am so glad to have done so! Your blog is fun, inspiring, educative and most of all, enjoyable. I couldn't agree more on your attitude that "you can achieve an awesome style without paying high-fashion prices". Hope to see more of you and your great ideas.
ReplyDeleteSmiles from Macedonia :)
Thank you for this lovely comment & all the lovely comments you have left around my blog :) it means a lot to me! Thank you thank you thank you! xx Annika
DeleteI love this blog and i love your styleee, ;~; I knew why I have always fancied girls in Australia, I found you on google when looking for tips on pastel pink dye and I also would ask if you have any more shopping saver tips for vintage clothing because I'd die to have your clothes :DDDD
ReplyDeleteHi Victoria, thank you so much :):) My vintage collection is actually due to about 5 years of vintage shopping - it's taken a long time to build up my collection! my best tip would be to go vintage shopping in rural areas! Not city/metropolitan areas.
DeleteRural areas is where you find the best scores, at the lowest prices (because often the people aren't saavy to the vintage trend) and it hasn't been picked-over hundreds of times already by trendy young hipsters.
Good luck!
xxx Annika
Do you still have your science blog?
ReplyDeleteyeeep! http://www.trustmeiamascientist.tumblr.com :)
DeleteHi Annika,
ReplyDeleteLove your work. Always something new.
I also started my own blog and i used one of your outfits and did a little customizing of my own.It was the red rain boots that you wore. I would love your feedback on what i did to them.
you'll find them on www.crystalsrus.com/blog
Hello Annika! I just found out about your blog and I'm so inspired with everything that you post here. From your outfit posts to your DIYs that made me want to sew again. You also fired up my passion for science. I've always wanted to be a biologist or study forensic science but never got the chance too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing me that fashion and science can collide and create a whole new universe as you did with this blog. You're an inspiration to us and I hope that many more blessings and good things will come for you this 2013.
Keep rocking!
Jade
What a lovely message to leave me. Thank you a billion times over! And I'm so soo happy my blog has inspired you! Much much love xxx
DeleteYou're welcome ^ ^ and thanks again for being such an inspiration. I'm going to work harder and be a better at my biology and microbiology classes. I found a reason to continue my love for science because of your blog.
DeleteI also nominated you for a blog award. I wanted to find a way to show my gratitude and appreciation and this is how I thought I would do it. https://edgeofjade.wordpress.com/2013/01/17/sisterhood-of-the-world-bloggers-award/
Keep rocking and best wishes for 2013!
What a great blog you have!! I can read it over and over again!! you have something:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for blogging!!

Hello! I have been stalking you for a while, and when I read all of your posts, I decided that I adore you and that you are one of my favourite bloggers :)
ReplyDeleteYou're way too nice :) Also you're a chemistry student so I added you to my science/fashion bloggers blogroll!
DeleteAnnika! You're one of my major inspirations!
ReplyDeletei LOVE your style!I decided to make a blog myself!
SO i would like to ask you which camera and lenses you use to take your photos? They're so cool <3
P.S.:I hope you're having a blast in Japan!!!<3
Such a nice message!!! Thank you! :)
DeleteI use a basic SLR, but it's served me very well in the three (almost four) years I've owned it. It's a Canon EOS 1000D. And the lens I use is just the lens that came with the camera when I bought it (basic Canon EFS 18-55mm)
Hope that helps you! :)
Hi Annika!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog in a completely random way but I absolutely loved it!
I'm an engineer at a big automotive company and just decided that I want my hair pink. I know that everyone will look at me, cause you're expected to be normal when you wear a suit everyday and you have a serious job in the office, but I simply don't care. You can love what you do (SCIENCE!) and still be yourself... as long as you're good at what you do nothing else should matter :)
Thank you for the inspiration and the tutorials!
What an amazingly nice comment, thank you so much ^_^ Definitely go for it and dye your hair pink (if you haven't already) - I'm sure it looks/will look awesome! Whenever people stare at me for wearing something out-there (all the time) it's okay, because I've just decided that I'm making the world a little bit more of an interesting place :)
DeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, and it's really inspired me to step outside my comfort zone and dress however I damn well please :P
Your outfits are very adorable, as are your wigs! I was just wondering where you got the one with the dip dye/ red ends? I would love to get it or something similar and have been searching for ages but can't find it!
<3
Dani
Ahhh thank you! Comments like that make me happier than anything!
DeleteI actually got my awesome dip-dye one from a store called "Body Line" in Japan. They actually do international shipping though, and have an online site in English, so youcan find the wig (or a similar one) here: http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/showAll.asp?type=cosplay (the code of my wig is W120 but it won't let me link directly to it). I don't understand the difference in "sizes" though I'm sorry :| they were all just the same size when I bought it in Japan.
Hello Annika!I want to start off by saying that you inspire me so much! I love your cute vintage style and your little fun science at the end of the posts. :) Because I grew up in a family that believed academics and fashion don't overlap, I never really got the chance to buy the clothes that I liked. Now that I'm older, my parents don't care anymore, but I don't really know where/what to start shopping. So... what are some of the essential pieces that pull together your look?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
Thank you :D My essential pieces are a boater hat (if you couldn't tell, haha), but then things I wear all the time are a pair of high-waisted shorts and a couple of simple cardigans in different colours. I also rewear a couple of patterned dresses all the time. And a circle-skirt/skater skirt is also a very versatile wardrobe item. OH! And a pair of patterned tights ;)
DeleteWho take syr pictures? They r wicked awesome:)
ReplyDeleteUr my inspiration :p
Thank you! :D You are so super lovely!
DeleteI mostly take them myself with timer + tripod, but sometimes I force my boyfriend to take them (rarely happens) and sometimes my photographer housemate does (also rare because he is always suuuper busy).

<3 Thank you so much for your lovely message!
thanks for reply...all your outfits are wonderful!!....
DeleteHello Annika!
ReplyDeleteI just spent about an hour going through all your adorable posts, and I have to say that they make me feel all smiley and giddy inside. I especially love your fashion/science posts - they're a really cool way to blend the two. Keep up the great work!! :)
Oh my gosh where do you get the fabrics?! I look everywhere, but I never find any awesome fabrics like yours?
ReplyDeleteMostly from op shops :)
DeleteHey Annika, Thank you so much for inspiring me to start my passion of making clothes etc! I am such a fan of your work and I love how unique you are. I actually just started a blog of my own, thanks to you inspiring me. It feels so good to blog and its a whole new world opened up.. Thank you XXXX
ReplyDeleteWasn't sure where to put this comment, but I thought the about page worked since you let us know you like science and study it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you've heard of this book, but I thought you might like to check out "Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie -A Tale of Love and Fallout" by Lauren Redniss. I read it for one of my creative non-fiction classes a few semesters ago and thought it might be right up your alley. Not only is it an interesting read, but the illustrations are beautiful. Lauren Redniss made the artwork for the book using cyanotype and the cover is printed using glow-in-the-dark ink (which freaked me out the first night I had it, haha).
Anyway, thanks for the constant inspiration and interesting posts!
I have heard of that book, but I haven't read it! :) Thank you so much for mentioning it though. It sounds really freaking cool! I will have to check it out!!
DeleteI just love this blog! Beyond words, your cute blog and self:)
ReplyDeleteAnnika~ you are my superior role model! I wish I could be someone as strong and passionate like you eventually. Question: How do you study bachelors science, travel, sew and make clothing, and work with so many companies in the industry? How do you get working with an industry or company too? I think these essential questions can help me learn a lot more about who I want to become and how to pursue a similar dream to yours. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much ;__; this is such a lovely comment!
DeleteAnd the answer is a LOT of hard work! This is something I have been working on non-stop on pursuing my dreams for the past 4 years. I never rest, haha. And I don't sleep too much either ;) it's probably not healthy. :|
Your Amazing Anni , I miss u heaps and love u even mre talk to u soon .
ReplyDeleteLove ur Cousin Chelsea xx
I love your blog. It's so much better than mine. Your layout is nice to look at too. I really like your style.
ReplyDeleteHi Annika! I've only just started watching your videos (as I've been looking for tutorials on how to make a cosplay skirt) and I'm so so happy I have! There are so many videos out there that are just so confusing and rushed, and require a thousand and one materials, but you make much better clothes in a way that is so much more accessible to me! Your videos have inspired me to spend all my money on fabric and spend all summer making cute little clothes :3 So thank you! :D
ReplyDeleteHey! I really want to say I just LOVE you're blog! Just watching and reading your tutorials in my free time inspires me to get sewing and try creating new things on my own! You have amazing fashion sense, too, and it's so cute and brave! You're YouTube tutorials are amazing, by the way. They're really easy to follow, and I was wondering what software or editing program you used to make them. It's really cool the way you add little zigzags to show where to sew and such, and I have a blog of my own and am thinking about creating a YouTube channel for it (creativity4eternity.blogspot.com)
ReplyDeleteThanks for being such an inspiration! ;D
THANK YOU! I use final cut pro for editing, it's super easy to use and intuitive! definitely worth the investment. It's like a step-up from imovie for mac :)
DeleteOkay, thanks a ton! And by the way, congratulations on moving and your new sewing space!
DeleteOMG... You are best person ever!!!👀 I love your blog!!!! Your Youtube videos... No comment... They are great !!! Your style is so so so fabulous... *-* I want ask you. Where you from? ...Because In your second hand's is so many clothes .......... P.S. You are so cool... :D And good night or morning... 💖 Bye ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
ReplyDeleteHi Annika. I'm from Philippines. I just wanted to tell you that you inspire me in any way and I just bought my very own sewing machine. I did a lot of hand sewing from the past and now it's time to upgrade. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and I wish you good health, peace, and happiness.
ReplyDelete-Beautiful mind inspire others <3
