Sweetheart & Sandgrains

Top is DIY | ring is DIY | skirt is thrifted | headband is DIY | shoes are from Yeswalker

I made this top, I made this top! I'm so excited with this new pattern I've made, with it's sweetheart neckline, and I'm going to be using it for both tops and dresses. It turned out to be perfect for pin-up style, which is awesome because that's probably my favourite style in the world, and since I recently learnt how to do my hair and make up properly (even though I've been blogging about style for two years I am really awful at the whole beauty thing), I think I can just about pull off pin-up style. I still don't really know how to backcomb my hair properly to make a giant beehive, but I can almost hide that under a pretty bow!

So this is what happens when you magnify sand 250 times:

Isn't it beautiful? When you look really, really closely at a handful of sand (like, with a microscope, not just by holding it really closely to your face - unless you have bionic magnifying eyes), you can see that it's actually composed of tiny shell fragments, glass, crystal and volcanic rocks.

A scientist named Dr Greenberg takes these gorgeous photos of the microscopic world (see his website for more sand, along with magnified moon rocks and food), combining both his photographic background with his background in biology to make people take notice of how beautiful the world is - a world that we'd be unable to see without science.

I hope that you're having a great day!

  2. I lovvvee this outfit the 50s is one of my favorite era for fashion. I want to know if you can give me some tips about going about thrifting. I mean I love it and I have gone a few times and got good stuff but not as good as you so can you give me some tips?

    1. Thank you sooo very much!
Well, my number one tip is probably to go A LOT! Haha. I only have so much good stuff because I have been visiting op-shops on (at least) a monthly-basis since I was 15, and a lot of the time it's kinda hit-and-miss.
Also, make sure you look in EVERY section (the kids section is now where I find a lot of good stuff!), try things on regardless of what the size says on the tag, and try and visit op-shops that aren't in heaps trendy areas, either (because hipsters will have already picked out all the good stuff ;) )

  3. The sand is amazing! Cute top - I've made it my goal this year to sew a lot more of my own clothes. :D And if you've ever visited my blog, it's no secret that I am a hair and beauty dunce. *sigh* I only do really nice make-up for parties or going out, and my hair at the moment is being left to its own devices. I can only manage so much every day!

    1. Yeah, but who could be bothered to dress up so much everyday? This makeup/hair thing took me half an hour which was waaay longer than it usually takes me to get ready - I think I will probably only do it for more special occasions as well, I have better things to do in my life! Haha

    1. All around!
Western sydney is particularly good for big thrifting adventures - From Penrith to Paramatta, there's heaps of massive warehouses of like salvos and lifeline, and there's SO much to look through.
In the city, Marrickville & Surry Hills Salvos is pretty good as well!
