Paisley'd Pinafore / Living in the Future

AX Paris sent me this amazing paisley-patterned pinny a little over a week ago, and since then I have been searching for the perfect blouse to pair it with. This morning, I discovered that I already owned that perfect blouse! This lace blouse is several years old now, and I am excited to have rediscovered it. I love finding old clothes at the back of my closet that I'd completely forgotten about - it's basically like buying new clothes, right?

I'm also doing a Milanoo review in this blog post - that's where I got this suuuuper cute bear bag from! Milanoo first caught my eye with all their cheap lolita dresses, but then I read some bad reviews and wasn't so sure. So I asked Milanoo to send me something, so I could see for myself whether or not they were legitimate! Well, I have to say I'm really happy with my first experience with them (with their bags, at least. I can't say anything about their lolita dresses yet!) The bag is really well made, and basically the cutest thing that has ever existed. It's also the perfect size for a day-bag, and the straps can be made longer so you can wear it across your body like a satchel bag. Also, the shipping was surprisingly fast - it took 8 days to arrive in Australia, which for international shipping is super speedy. Although it is only a one-off buy, and I can't speak for everyone who has seemingly had a bad experience with them, I am really happy with the site.

You guys know how excited I am about 3D Printing (see me gushing about it here and here). And you may have also remembered me talking about the possibilities of printing out functioning organs sometime in the future. Well, the future is here! Princeton University scientists have 3D-printed an ear out of cells mixed with hydrogels (which is a basically just a polymer, either natural or synthetic), and added electronic bits to it including an antennae, so that when connected to someone's auditory nerve, it could potentially allow a deaf person to hear. This whole experiment was just a proof-of-concept that a 3D printer could handle biological material mixed with micro-electronics, but the potential applications of this are vast! The picture of the ear is a little inappropriate to put on a fashion blog, so I'll let you check it out here (it's not gruesome or anything, don't worry).

Are you guys all having a good week?

  1. This pinafore is so gorgeous! I love the subtle print on it. That blouse really is the perfect pairing for it. And your bag is adorable!
I've been hearing about 3D printing too and I think it's so cool! They'll be able to print whole hearts someday. Science is the best.

  2. Annika, I just have to say it. I LOVE your looks and all, and I saw all of your looks, because I'm very inspired by you, but this look. Omg, It's so freaking cute that I don't even have words to express myself. It's one of your best looks, really! I was really missing looks like this *-* Keep up the good work *-*/

  3. Holy cow, that bear purse is adorable! I just can't stand it.

Also, I'm very excited about 3D printing. What it's doing with textiles is great, but I'm BLOWN away by the advancements that have come to pass. They're attempting to print organs and I heard that they were printing mouse hearts that work perfectly well for transplanting. For other mice, anyway!

Love your blog. Can't wait for more!

That's too bad so many people have had bad experiences with milanoo because I like a lot of the items I see on the website. I'll have to read up about it a bit. I think you could definitely pull of a lolita dress!

  7. Ok, this is not fair! You are too freaking adorable and you're making me jealous. I think it would be kinder for everyone if you just ruffled yourself up a bit before taking photos from now on!

Of course I'm kidding, but seriously, I am in awe of this look!

3D printing freaks me out! My brain just can't understand it!

  11. I've heard of Milanoo as a scam site :(
The pictures of the products on the site are really lovely, and the dress you linked to is gorgeous, but a lot of lolita communities say it's not legit.
But at least they sent you a nice bag!

  12. Well, you look like a model from a Japanese magazine here! Which I get the feeling from all your posts, is exactly where you'd like to step out of. :)

And that thing about 3d printing is fascinating. In my work we've been having some serious discussions about copyright implications etc. Can you just make someone's work? Then there are people talking about how you can use them to home make guns. It's really amazing to hear that they can actually reproduce body parts with it. A lot more positive and useful then making guns or shoes.

  15. That blouse IS perfect with this pinafore, for sure! So so lovely. And that bear bag is obviously AMAZING. I was shocked when I read that you got it from Milanoo, though. I've read some awful, awful things about that company (I was looking for Lolita dresses too, and they have some great ones), but I'm glad you had a good experience. I'd probably still be wary about ordering anything from them, though that bear bag is tempting me!

  20. I love your outfit, especially the pinafore! It looks so cute and feminine with the blouse.

However, I must warn you about MIlanoo. They are without a shadow of doubt a scam site. The purse you received is of good quality because it was not made by Milanoo- their accessories (bags, shoes, etc) tend to come from wholesalers in China and Korea. Their dresses are a whole other story. Every stock image you see on their site is stolen from a lolita brand, and if you order a dress, you will be sent an inferior product that is nothing like the stock image. A quick google search will turn up tons of reviews to support that claim!

    1. Ah, awesome, thank you so much for the advice. I was considering getting a lolita dress after I had a good experience with the bag, but perhaps I will either stick to bags, or not shop with them again :\
